Zhong Kui is expelled from the heavens to live as a human with no memory of his past after getting into serious problems due to his excruciatingly obstinate and headstrong disposition. He meets Yang Ren Zhi and Ling Xi on his quest to discover who he really is, and they decide to journey with him as devoted allies. Zhong Kui as Mu Tian Ran uses his wit and intelligence to improve their chances despite the fact that he lacks any supernatural abilities. The group, however, becomes embroiled in a plot that has the potential to turn them against one another.
